Kings of Hong Kong release debut album via WWW
CITRUS COMMUNICATIONS
PRESS RELEASE -- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KINGS OF HONG KONG
"Country Punk Boutique" is the first album from KOHK, which features Dave Naylor on Vocals and Guitar, with Danny Ashberry on Keyboards, Craig Barrie on drums, Steve Prince on Bass and Lee Affen on Guitar.
The album is being released independently via Citrus Communications which is based at Apocalypse Studios in Manchester the home of around 11 local unsigned bands. This will be the first release for the label and they plan to revolutionise the record industry by offering sale or return product to any independent record store that has a website, on the condition that they provide a link to the band website. The old fashioned distribution companies have a stranglehold on the UK music industry and make it very difficult for new bands to break through" says John Leah M.D. We plan to bypass the usual channels and supply directly to the shops, thus keeping our costs low and giving smaller record stores a chance to make money with no risks".
The album is also available as a free download in MP3 format from the band website http://www.kohk.co.uk
They are fixed in their belief that it is more important to get the music out to people than worry about how much money could be made. We dont have much money but we have a strong following some great songs and we play together because we like it". Getting a record deal these days is almost impossible unless you can invent a new dance step or grow a pair of tits". says singer Dave Naylor The last year has resulted in only mediocre attention from the majors and we didnt want to wait for them to pick us up any longer".
'Country Punk Boutique was produced by Yves Altana, who has proven his production skills on many albums to come out of Manchester in the last ten years, and most recently on his own album 'Venus from Invincible in his collaboration with, Ex Chameleons frontman Mark Burgess.
KOHK had an unexpected chance to repay his dedication, time and effort when due to unforeseen circumstances Invincible lost their drummer just a week before they were to embark on a nationwide tour promoting the launch of their own album. Danny Ashberry had already agreed to help them on keyboards and when Craig heard about their dilemma he also offered to help. He learned all of the songs on the album in a few days and performed all of the gigs almost faultlessly. Dave Naylor also stepped up and showed his tour managing skills. Mark and Yves both hailed them as their saviors and paid tribute to their undeniable talent. Fans who went to the concerts have since sent emails and letters praising them for their performances and thanking them for their gallantry. Many also want copies of their album when it is available.
Last week one of the songs from the album (Savannah) was released on the European Mp3 site www.besonic.com and entered the UK Rock/Pop section at No23. This week it has climbed to No2.

Direct marketing will also play a major part in this campaign. There is a current database of more than 2500 names in the UK who will all receive details of the release. The band and their management have kept close contact with the fans over the past few years through web-site activity and personal mail.
The album has been scheduled for release on Monday 27th March 2000.
A tour is planned after the release with performances planned throughout the UK.
