Internet Domain Name "ReformerWithResults.com" to Be Sold at Auction.
SACRAMENTO, CA -- March 3, 2000 -- Realizing the increasing value of the internet as a conduit to voters in this election cycle, CleanBoot gBl has placed the following domain names, which it has registered, on auction at eBay.com:
ReformerWithResults.com
ReformerWithResults.org
aReformerWithResults.com
aReformerWithResults.org
The auction is located at http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=272164086 , and the format of the auction is private; the names of bidders and buyer will not be revealed either during or after the process.
While, of course, the "buyer" of a domain name is simply buying the right to register the name for a period of use, such registration is a required first step to establishing a web site, making the right to register a valuable and even essential commodity.
The opening bid for the group of four names is listed at $250.00, but a "reserve price" between $4000.00 and $7000.00 is thought to be in place. Although offers from the predictable parties are being entertained outside the auction format, sales at auction will supercede any prior negotiations providing they have not been resolved before the auction reaches its completion.
While the presidential campaign of George W. Bush is most recently identified with the reformer label, and is thought to be the party that the owner of the names would prefer to see as their eventual receipient, the auction format allows anyone to bid on the items. One prospective buyer, obviously not affiliated with the Bush camp, seemed to relish the idea of the Texas governer's campaign attempting to argue an exclusive claim to the monikers, perhaps under the new cybersquatting laws, saying "First of all, I'm assuming they'll snatch the names up themselves, but if a rival does get them, I can't see how the [law's] criteria are even close to being met. Besides, the eight-hundred pound gorililla is the fact that the last thing the Bush folks need right now is to have to try and make some tortured arguement that they got to reform first as an issue, and have some exemptive right to the label --with or without results."
The auction will proceed for ten days and will conclude at Mar-09-00 17:07:22 PST.
Those interested in the auction should visit the eBay location provided above or forward direct inquires to antiphon@jps.net
