LEGISLATORS SECURE AGREEMENT TO RECOUP TAXPAYER EXPENSE

In a bipartisan effort led by Nassau County Legislator Salvatore B. Pontillo (R-Farmingdale), Nassau County Legislators have secured an agreement with the Chairman of the Privatization Committee for the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Mort Certilman, that the eventual developer of the site will reimburse the County for the expense of conducting a Generic Environmental Impact Statement. It is estimated that the GEIS will cost $600,000 to conduct.

"All parties agree that the GEIS is not only necessary to construct a new arena, but also is a critical first step in any development of the HUB," said Salvatore Pontillo, a member of the Planning, Development and Environment Committee. "This agreement provides that the taxpayer will be reimbursed for its expense in conducting the GEIS."

"It is gratifying to know that even in these difficult financial times we can plan for the future economic growth of Nassau County," concluded Legislator Pontillo.
