MDserve.com, the Physician e-Community", Goes Live with Houston-based Memorial Clinical Associates as First Subscriber

HOUSTON, TEXAS -- May 2, 2000 - MDserve.com, the physician e-Community", went live with Houston-based Memorial Clinical Associates as its first subscriber. MDserve.com provides the industrys first integrated practice management and managed care applications that allow physician practices and the managed care organizations they create to share data electronically with each other from a common database, creating the physician e-Community" and a new paradigm in healthcare: D2D", or doctor-to-doctor."
Memorial Clinical Associates is one of Houstons largest independent multi-specialty groups with 18 physicians and 65 total personnel, and is further home to Primary Medical Care, a 300-physician IPA. According to Tim Thomas, Memorials managing director, the advantages to MCA of the e-Community cant be overstated. Based on rules we create, we can share data with the specialists in our IPA network regarding patient demographics and health plans. If those specialists use MDserve.com, they can receive all patient referral data electronically and we can reduce the significant overhead expense we incur to manage the referral process. No other Internet healthcare solution targeted at the physician practice or IPA enables D2D.

Combined with full Internet connectivity with payors and, eventually, labs, pharmacies, suppliers and patients, we believe MDserve.com will help us reduce our overhead by as much as 28-30%."
Mr. Thomas further added that MCA has been a user of the MDserve.com applications in a client server environment for nearly 3 years now, and remains convinced that these 32-bit Windows NT products are the best the industry has to offer. Combining those applications with access through an ASP and the e-Community really sets them apart. And, we pay at least 40% less than we would pay in a legacy environment, and less than half what other providers of hosted applications are charging. All this means that were aggressively recruiting our specialist network to subscribe to MDserve.com, and they have already responded enthusiastically."
MCAs willingness to recruit their physician network to MDserve.com is evidence of the power of D2D and 'viral marketing," adds Michael Barron, President of MDserve.com. We are building our sales and marketing organization to support key customers in major markets in their viral marketing efforts, and have been overwhelmed by the response from MCAs network already."
In February 2000 MDserve.com acquired the assets of MDS Technologies, LLC, a respected provider of Windows-based software applications to physician practices and IPAs since 1996. The applications have been sold to over 160 practices and IPAs in 20 states, and are used by over 2,500 physicians. The MDserve.com suite of applications includes all the functionality of the legacy applications. Those applications are now delivered to the practice desktop in a 100% thin-client environment, where no sensitive data travels over the Internet, only encrypted screen images and keystrokes.
