Interpage Announces First Wireless Fax Reception and Mailbox Service for Palm Pilot PDAs
*** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ***
Interpage Network Services Inc.
Orinda, CA
May 1st, 2000
Interpage Network Services, an Internet and Telecommunications Integration
firm, announced today that its FaxUp(sm) Palm service for wireless Palm
Pilot users is immediately available. The FaxUp Palm service -- the first
and only wireless fax mailbox for Palm Pilot which allows real-time, full
display of received faxes directly on the Palm PDA -- allows Palm Pilot
users to immediately receive, view, annotate and resend their faxes
wherever they happen to be!
Palm VII users with Palm.net or Bell South Wireless Data service, Palm
V/OmniSky CDPD users, and some Palm III CDPD users via Palm web-portal
services may now utilize Interpage's FaxUp service to provide a complete,
real-time, wireless fax mailbox with the ability to view the entirety of
their faxes directly on their Palm Pilot PDAs.
The Interpage FaxUp service provides Palm Pilot users a local telephone
number in over 40 major metropolitan areas including New York, Boston,Washington, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco and LA, as well as via higher
priced toll-free access. Callers send faxes to a Palm Pilot customer's
personal fax mailbox number, which may then be immediately viewed in their
entirety on the user's Palm Pilot in full graphic detail (both
High-Resolution and Low-Resolution fax reception modes are supported).
Palm Pilot customers are notified that a new fax has been received by an
e-mail message directly to their Palm Pilot, or to any other e-mail
address(es), alpha or numeric-only pagers, alpha-capable cellular
telephones, GSM Mobile phones, or soon via telephone/voicemail
notification.
Upon notification that a new fax has been received, the Palm Pilot user
activates a free FaxUp Palm software package provided by Interpage and
downloadable from Interpage's website (see
http://www.interpage.net/sub-palm.html).
The FaxUp Palm software establishes a connection to Interpage's server,
and presents the user with a complete list of new and seen faxes, as well
as the date and number of pages for each received fax message, and the
options to view a received fax in it's entirety, store the fax, delete the
fax, lock the fax to permanent storage, rename the fax, send the fax to
another e-mail address as an attachment, resend the fax to another fax
machine, or append a note to the fax and then send it to another fax
machine. All of these features are provided via a real-time, interactive, fully featured fax mailbox which responds to user commands from the FaxUp
Palm interface and provides detailed and immediate updates to changes,
modifications, and deletions made to a user's FaxUp Palm fax mailbox.
Additionally, the Faxup Palm fax list minimizes textual content so as to
afford the user a low-bandwidth means to manage their faxes (at times
when they do not need to view them) for customers who utilize carriers
which bill on per-byte or metered basis.
The FaxUp Palm service also offers Web-based access to allow Palm Pilot
users the ability to view their faxes directly via a traditional Web
browser, as well as e-mail transmission of faxes to one or more e-mail
addresses which can then be viewed with most MIME-compliant mail programs,
such as Microsoft's Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape Communicator Mail,
and more.
FaxUp Palm is also a fully-featured traditional fax mailbox, allowing
Palm users telephone access to retrieve their faxes from any standard fax
machine world-wide as a supplemental means of fax reception when needed.
Customers dial into their FaxUp Palm local fax number, enter a security
code, and are then presented with a menu itemizing their new and seen faxes,
time, date, number of pages, and CallerID/Station ID if available.
Individual faxes may be downloaded directly to another fax machine for
hard copy if needed, or stored in the FaxUp Palm telephone access mailbox for future retrieval via the user's Palm, Web browser, e-mail accounts, or
fax machine. FaxUp Palm customers may also place custom greetings other
than the standard CNG/fax tones on their local access number to alert
callers that they will be away for a given period of time or other
informational instructions. Should the sender want to skip the message, it
can be automatically interrupted by pressing "START" on their fax machine.
Additionally, the FaxUp Palm fax mailbox is never busy -- multiple
callers may send faxes to it simultaneously and never receive a busy signal!
The FaxUp Palm also offers a robust notification system, providing instant
notifications of new fax reception to:
[] Alpha pagers
[] Numeric-only pagers
[] Alpha-capable cellphones
[] Numeric-only messaging cellphones
[] GSM/SMS Mobile phones
[] International Paging Systems
[] GTE/Airphone and ATT Wireless Inflight Telephone systems
[] Traditional telephones and cellphones via voice greeting/notification
[] Voicemail notification via voice greeting/notification
[] E-Mail new fax message only notification
[] E-Mail notification with the complete fax included as an Attachment
FaxUp Palm customers may configure their notification regime so that a given
device, such as a pager or cellphone, is notified at certain times of the
day, while at other times (such as late night hours) only e-mail
notification is provided. Any combination of scheduling and notification
regimes is allowed to maximize the powerful notification tools offered by
the FaxUp Palm service.
Currently, the FaxUp Palm service is available to all Palm VII owners
with Mobitex wireless data (provided by Palm.net and Bell South Wireless
Data) as well as to Palm V owners with OmniSky (CDPD) as their wireless
provider. FaxUp Palm is also available to Palm III CDPD users who utilize
wireless web portals which convert Web-based content to formats which can
be presented and displayed on Palm III devices.
Some of the carriers which the FaxUp Palm service will currently operate
with for Palm VII/V/III owners include AT&T, Bell Atlantic/Southwest
Cellular, Ameritech, US West, US Cellular, BC Tel, MTT Mobility, Telus
Mobility, SNET, Union Cellular (CDPD), Palm.net's unlimited Mobitex
service or the Bell South Wireless Data (BSWD) service.
Additionally, Interpage intends to provide support for all wireless Palm
platforms regardless of wireless modem or carrier.
FaxUp Palm service is priced starting at $19.95 per month, with a 10 cent
per page reception charge. (Certain paging and voice notification services
may also incur additional per-use charges if active when a new fax is
received; toll-free access also incurs higher per-use charges; please
inquire for details.)
