Ancient Traditions Bring Zest to Modern Ceremonies
The wedding ceremony is one of the oldest rituals of unity in history. No matter what
religious or secular beliefs a couple has,the end result of the ceremony is the joining of two
into one .The practice has been glibly referred to as tying the knot".
Kitty Ariza a retail bridal store owner in Riverside California has introduced The Nuptial
Knot as a symbol of unification in the modern wedding ceremony.according to Ariza I
wanted to bring an old tradition to the 21 century so couples could have a another option in
their ceremony".The knot is used during the wedding ceremony and comes with vows. The
two ends of the cord represent to lives ,looped over into a knot to symbolize two becoming
one.as the couples tie the knot they are binding their love and marriage.
Ritual plays a significant role in the modern wedding according to California Reverend
Elba Cordio of I do Weddings" ritual can add an important element to an already
magical moment."I have performed many ceremonies where couples incorporate a ritual or
a tradition in their ceremony,it appears they take the wedding more seriously because it is
more meaninful and binding".
In ancient times it is believed that tying the knot has many sources .History shows that
the wedding ring was first knotted cords worn by primitive people around their
fingers, ankles and wrists. In Iranian and persian weddings a cloth would separate the
couple and the hands would be bound with cord to symbolize their union.Their are other
cultures that used knotted cord as a symbol of unity or other significant rituals.
The Nuptial Knot comes in white or Ivory cord accented with silver or gold heart for
engraving.Kitty Ariza is hoping to bring about a new standard in wedding vowing.
Couples can say"I tied the knot literally"."The Nuptial Knot website is
