Linux-based Newlix OfficeServer to be marketed by Look Communications

NEWLIX CORPORATION AND LOOK COMMUNICATIONS ANNOUNCE MARKETING PARTNERSHIP TO PROMOTE NEWLIX OFFICESERVER

Ottawa, ON -- May 3, 2000 -- Newlix Corporation and Look Communications Inc. today announced a marketing partnership to promote the use of Newlix OfficeServer, a turnkey Linux-based network operating system for small and mid-sized businesses looking for secure, company-wide Internet access.
Newlix OfficeServer features plug-and-play software installation and easy-to-use, web-based configuration tools, which simplify network setup and management for a fraction of the price of competing network operating systems.
Newlix Corporation developed its versatile networking solution based on the Linux operating system and designed it for rapid implementation in a multi-platform environment of Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Unix clients.
Look Communications is a leading wireless broadband carrier and one of the largest Internet Service Providers in Canada. The Newlix OfficeServer will be included in a host of Web-based applications Look offers to support business Internet requirements.
"With Newlix OfficeServer, Look can develop reliable, cost-effective solutions for their customers Internet access needs," said John Hansen, President and co-founder, Newlix Corporation. "Newlix OfficeServer allows businesses to take the risk out of deploying advanced networking technology, providing their staff with the ability to work easily, work anywhere and work on the Internet."
Newlix OfficeServer will complement the innovative and easily adaptable Internet services Look currently provides for small to medium-sized businesses in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec.
"This partnership offers customers leading edge technology and delivers a total solution for business Internet users," said Gary Kawaguchi, Senior Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Customer Care, Look Communications Inc. "Companies can put their business on the Internet through a one-stop solution, incorporating Looks domain name registration, web-hosting and dial up and high speed access services and Newlix easy-to-use software."
The Newlix OfficeServer networking and communications platform promises to enhance the efficiency of safe information transfer and retrieval for small-to-medium-sized operations.
"Newlix OfficeServer allows Look to offer advanced Internet capabilities, such as network firewalls, proxy servers and secure VPN (Virtual Private Network) to clients who have been excluded from such technologies due to the high cost of software," said David Hicks, Sales Manager, Newlix Corporation.
This marketing partnership fits with the strategy of both companies to increase their target market base.
We are delighted to partner with Newlix to expand Looks ability to service the small to medium sized business market. This extends our commitment to offering the industrys best technology and highest level of service to our customers," said Kawaguchi.
