Music Teacher Performs Free Concert at Borders Bookstore

Tyrone Vernon, Keyboardist, Composer, and County School Teacher, To Perform at Borders in Gaithersburg
GERMANTOWN, MD - May 12, 2000 - Tyrone Vernon, jazz-funk keyboardist, composer, and music teacher at Sally Ride Elementary School in Germantown, MD, will perform a concert at Borders Bookstore, in Gaithersburg, on May 19, at 7:30 p.m.
The performance is free and open to the public.
On April 29, Mr. Vernon, as he is affectionately called by his students, performed at the Borders Bookstore in Germantown to an enthusiastic audience. Tyrone displayed his musical talents by performing a variety of selections, which included a captivating arrangement of the Dave Brubeck jazz standard Take Five," and soulful renditions of the pop classics Smooth Operator" by Sade, and Ribbon in the Sky" by Stevie Wonder. Tyrone is predicting big things for the May 19 concert: Its going to be even tighter and better than the
Germantown concert."
Known throughout the Maryland and Washington D.C. metropolitan area as a musicians-musician," Tyrone has performed at the world famous Blues Alley in Georgetown, opened for the R&B group Mint Condition, and performed with the D.C. based, Mike Stevens Project. One of Tyrones education highlights was participating in a student workshop at Gaithersburg High School, with jazz great Winton Marsalis.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Mr. Vernon attended Bowling Green University, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and a Masters degree in Music Composition. A dedicated musician since the age of 14, Tyrone has also been a county schoolteacher for the past 13 years. Tyrone resides in Germantown with his wife and one child.
Mr. Vernon performs weekly at the Pentagon City Nordstrom and is the choir director for Trinity AME Zion church in Washington D.C. He is currently working on a self-titled release that is a unique blend of jazz/funk/pop. Look for the release in October 2000.
