Celle/Germany: Where President Harry S. Truman and Franklin D. Roosevelt have their roots: Professional genealogy tours for American tourists..

Celle, Northern Germany: Often called "the Rothenburg of the North" this beautiful medieval town between Hamburg, Berlin and Hannover (EXPO 2000 is just 25 miles away) once was the home of President Harry S. Truman's ancestors and Franklin D. Roosevelts mother. Researchers found official evidence which links the Celle area to these US Presidents.
Tourism Celle - together with their US Office in Venice, FL - offers professional genealogy tours/seminars for Americans to discover their German roots. These seminars are conducted by a professional bilingual genealogist who takes participants to Lower Saxony State Archives for research, to the ports of Bremerhaven and Hamburg where all the ships left and where state-of-the-art museums showcase the life of emmigrants.
But there are more American-German facts about Celle: Tulsa, Oklahoma and Celle/Lower Saxony are signing an official sister city contract this June in Celle. Both cities have a mutual interest in the other culture and two major things in common: Horse breeding and oil production. Celle/Fassberg was also the touchdown base for US airplanes during the Berlin Airlift. Here - nowadays a memorial - the planes refueled and headed for Berlin.
