PRESS RELEASE:
Date: 12 June, 2000
(Sao Paulo, Brazil) Maria Christina Godoy Homem de Mello, President/CEO of WorldconnectioN*, today announced that she has entered into an exclusive agency and license agreement with Sterling Forbes, Inc., ("SFI"), Atlanta, Georgia USA to deploy and operate a Brazilian based, nationwide Broadband Intelligent Network for Voice, Data and Video Services to wired and wireless LECs, CLECs, ISPs, ASPs, eCommerce enterprises, etc.
WorldconnectioN*'s Telecommunication license, announced by ANATEL this past week, will allow WorldconnectioN* to become the leader in Internet and Telecommunication Services in Brazil.
WorldconnectioN*'s Intelligent Network will be a "next-generation" network built from the ground up using the latest in optical technology to satisfy real business needs. With virtually unlimited bandwidth and built-in intelligence, the WorldconnectioN*'s Intelligent Network bridges the chasm between very expensive dedicated (Virtual Private) networks and the public Internet. "Combining the power of Pure IP with embedded network intelligence, we're enabling a whole new breed of application services," WorldconnectioN* announced.
The WorldconnectioN* Intelligent Network will excel at transporting rich media and high-bandwidth, delay-sensitive content, including:
· Live television content
· IP telephone services
· Videoconferencing
· Streaming video
· Distance learning
· Network hosted applications
· New forms of entertainment
The WorldconnectioN* Intelligent Network will be comprised of three components: a Pure IP network, Wireless Local Loop (WLL), a One Hop community of distributed servers, and WorldconnectioN* Broadband Services' powerful, software that enables unique application services. The WorldconnectioN*'s Intelligent Network will allow our partners and customers to deploy products and services that will revolutionize the delivery of rich media and other delay-sensitive, high-bandwidth solutions to their homes, SOHO (Small Office Home Office) and desktops.
This sweeping new approach provides a highly reliable, pay-for-what-you-need, bandwidth-on-demand method to deliver data and streaming media to three constituencies: content and application providers, network service providers, and to end-users who want more from the public Internet.
To Be Built With the Best Equipment Available
To implement this new architecture, WorldconnectioN*, through SFI's deployment and operation within Brazil, is forming strategic alliances with International equipment leaders in network technology.
Today, Internet Protocol (IP) is acknowledged as the optimal network protocol for digital communications. By eliminating network layers, we will be able to deploy a Pure IP network at significantly lower capital costs and operating expenditures for our customers when compared to existing traditional communication networks. On WorldconnectioN*'s Intelligent Network, IP is the convergence layer where the most innovative new applications are being developed.
With WorldconnectioN*'s Intelligent Network, Pure IP overcomes the shortcomings of the existing public Internet for serving rich media content to the desktop:
· Requires multiple hops to reach desired content
· "Best effort" delivery (no guarantee)
· Unpredictable quality of service
· The Internet is extremely oversubscribed
Why a Pure IP Network?
· Deploy a next generation architecture which meets the demand for low-cost, highly reliable IP bandwidth on demand
· Deliver high-speed, native IP service only, in a service-optimized network
· Avoid applications which require functions not possible in today's IP implementations
· Leverage architecture to enable network applications dependent on higher bandwidth
· Packet switched technology
· Bandwidth on demand
· No point-to-point limitations
· Data paths inherently fault tolerant and redundant
· Fewer network layers
· Reduced capital equipment
· Reduced operations costs
· Technology advances
· Increasing port speeds
· QoS mechanisms & standardization
· Interoperability
· Internet
· Intranet
· Extranet
· PSTN gateways (H.323, etc.)
· Video
· Other emerging applications
