The Parents TelevisionCouncil(PTC) has been attacking the WWF's sponsors for quite some time now, causing many to reconsider their sponsorship of the syndicated weekly television show Smackdown!
However, during their campaigning against the World Wrestling Federation(WWF[Stock Exchange symbol WWFE]), they were secretly making money off of WWF product sales on-line, with their on-line "MarketPlace." In the MarketPlace of the PTC website (http://www.ParentsTV.org), it states:
". . .Every time you make a purchase in our MarketPlace, a percentage of the sale goes directly to the Parents Television Council. . ."
In the MarketPlace however, company websites such as ToysRUs.com were being linked to. However, the largest seller of ToysRUs.com and other sites they linked to, were WWF products. Therfor, the PTC was making money off of the on-line sale off WWF products.
When wrestling fans discovered this, they reported it to many wrestling sites on the internet. The links to ToysRUs.com were suddenly deleted, along with many others.
However, there are still at least two websites featured in the PTC's MarketPlace that make money off of WWF product sales, therfor, the PTC is still making money off of these products, and has refused to do anything about the links still there.
Not only this, but this non-profit "Family oriented" orginization has also been making money off of the sale of tobbacco products, also through their MarketPlace. Before the tobbacco company was threatened with a boycott by wrestling fans if they did not stop their affiliation with the PTC, you could find a link to Cigar.com in the PTC's MarketPlace, and hence, a portion of Cigar.com's sales went to the PTC.
