TV Tome.com (www.tvtome.com) has launched a volunteer-based attempt to create the largest and most comprehensive guide to television shows and actors available on the Internet. The site already has entries for over 250 shows including all new and returning shows on the major broadcast networks for the 2000-2001 TV season. These shows are linked to information on over 1800 actors.

A revolutionary approach

TV Tome is based on the idea that the Internet represents a truly revolutionary new media. Rather than a static document that people read passively TV Tome is a dynamic and living guide that each reader can help build. Site visitors that are particularly knowledgeable or interested in a given TV show or actor can volunteer to be an editor. The editor then approves and edits additions to the site as well as adding information on their own. "The whole idea of building such a large guide with all volunteers is something that is only made possible by the Internet" said TV Tome founder John Nestoriak. "The Internet at it's best, is about bringing together people with a common interest to create something that would not be possible without this new communications medium."

Easy and fun

The design of the site makes it easy for anyone to create a guide to their favorite show or star without any technical knowledge. Noah Karchmer, volunteer editor for the classic show Taxi says "The site is easy to use and a fun way to pay homage to one of my favorite TV shows of all time."
