"Power to Us Old People" -- SeniorTown.org Opens Its Doors September 1
Power to Us Old People!" -- SeniorTown.org opens its doors September 1
Charleston, SC -- SeniorTown.org, an online community for Seniors 55+, whose principal purpose is to give residents the ability to evaluate and publicly post their findings about other so-called Seniors-Friendly" Web sites as well as hoaxes, scams and genuine dangers on the Internet opens its doors September 1.
Only Seniors will be involved in the evaluations.
A whimsical map of SeniorTown graces the home page at www.SeniorTown.org but most of the work will be deadly serious. 52 Web sites a year -- one a week -- will be evaluated through site visits, message board postings and private residents-only chat room discussions.
The SeniorTown Weekly Whisperer" will post ratings, evaluations and individual comments weekly, both at the SeniorTown.org Web site and in weekly E-mails to residents. Ratings will range from 1 (excellent") to 5 (bad.")
Residents will also be encouraged to check out and report on both hoaxes like the famous California Wobbler" virus and genuine dangers like the devastating I Love You" virus.
The founder of SeniorTown.org and self-appointed Mayor is 66-year-old John Kernell, in real life a former Commissioner of the City of Charleston, SC, founder and board president of the SC chapter of the National Stroke Association and the founder and self-appointed Geezer in Chief (for now) of The Geezer Brigade, a three-year-old online humor organization for Seniors 55+ located at www.thegeezerbrigade.com. A number of members of The Geezer Brigade have become residents of SeniorTown in advance of the public opening.
The SeniorTown.org Police Station has a message board for site evaluations. The Fire Station has a message board for hoaxes, etc. The Planning Commission has a message board for suggested other Senior-related services. The Town Hall has a chat room which requires a password to enter. But there is also a place for a little less serious talk: the SeniorTown Shopping Center offers gossipy message boards in both Bobs Barber Shop and Bettys Beauty Salon.
Like The Geezer Brigade, SeniorTown.org will accept no advertising nor will it offer resident E-mail lists or any other information to any outside entity. Thus, it will rely solely on nominal property taxes" of $1.00 a month or $12 a year from residents to keep its doors open.
An iron-clad money-back guarantee is offered if residents dont find the organization worthwhile.
