2D Area / 3D Volume Holographic Data Storage

The New Data Storage Frontier will be 3 D Volume Holographic Disk Drives

FREMONT, Calif. -- Colossal Storage has received two new U.S. Patents, # 6,028,835 2/22/00 and # 6,046,973 4/4/00, for an integrated read/write head for ferroelectric optical media.

Colossal Storage is a volume holographic optical mass data storage device research and development company that intends to design, continue to patent, and market its 3D volume holographic optical storage disk drive.

The company wants to raise seed capital to investigate the technical issues of designing the worlds first 3D holographic disc storage using its proprietary recording media and heads technology.

The company wants to start off first proving recording densities of 200 gbits/sq. in and going up from there.

Colossal's unique patented concept for a semiconductor integrated read/write head techniques will pave the way for 3 D volume hologram optical molecular storage nanotechnology that will be equal to or greater than 16 times 10 to the 64th power molecules per square inch or 200 terabits/sq in.

Colossal Storage has put together a world class team of physicist to prove patent and holographic concepts of the infinite read / write random access massive storage technology.

The company has a thin film media partner.

The 3D holographic storage device already has 2 patents which are initially incorporated. Please note: only 2 D Area concepts are shown on website as 3 D Volume concepts are under confidential research and development.

Both patents covers techniques and functions for controlling ferroelectric high K dieletric perovskites's dipole properties which can be used for future optical mass storage of data. The patents deal with techniques for fast data transfer read/write control of ferroelectric molecules which have a persistence of 10 years or more.

Colossal Storage patents on a semiconductor read/write head for ferroelectric optical storage media memories promises to raise data storage densities by a factor of 100 or more.

Colossal Storage Corporation wants to be the leading provider of primary backup storage and primary online massive data storage technology for the next millenium.

First publication of 3 D Holographic Storage will appear in 9 TH NASA/IEEE GOODARD SPACE CENTER FLIGHT CONFERENCE ON MASS STORAGE 2001 and AEROSENSE 2001.

The paper will describe and show the physics of light interference at the atomic and molecular level and how 3 D Volume data is read and stored using ferroelectric molecules.
