GreatUNpublished.com & Books for Kids

Web Publisher and Its Authors to Donate Sales to Literacy
GreatUNpublished.com Giving Back to Tomorrow's Readers

Starting September 1, 2000 and continuing until midnight on Halloween,
web-based publisher GreatUNpublished.com will be giving a portion of each book sale and author sign-up to Books for Kids, a Seattle-based non-profit organization that
gives books to kids who need them the most.

The two-month-long Up All Night Reading event will also give away prizes for the best new writers and to readers who write the best reviews of books on the site. "Since I first
dreamed of the 'library of great unpublished books' the mission statement
has always included giving back through supporting literacy programs,"
says GreatUNpublished.com's Editor and co-founder Jeff Schwaner. "What a way
to celebrate Literacy Month! Books for Kids is the perfect way to give back.
Everyone who is a book lover remembers some book they were given as a
child that they probably still have and cherish. A book is one of the greatest
gifts we can give."

This feeling is reflected in the slogan of Up All Night Reading,
"Support Today's New Writers, Nurture Tomorrow's Readers."

Founded in 1990, Books for Kids helps children reach their full potential
while preventing future literacy problems. To achieve this, Books for Kids
provides new books to at-risk children to keep and treasure, encourages
parents to read to their children, and helps schools and social service
agencies to run successful literacy programs. In the past ten years,
Books for Kids has placed 600,000 new books into the hands of 200,000 at-risk
children who might otherwise have no books at home.

GreatUNpublished.com archives books for authors, and sells them directly
to readers in both electronic and quality paperback formats. They offer
authors royalties of 30% on paperback sales, and 70% on e-book sales. For the
first three months an author is one the site GreatUNpublished.com pays
100% royalties on e-book sales.

Several of the web-based publisher's authors have already agreed to donate
part or all of their royalties to Books for Kids during Up All Night Reading.
That means a significant portion of each book -- up to 40% of the retail
price of some books sold -- will go directly to purchasing more books for
low-income children. "Your dollar counts twice," Schwaner says. "It buys
a book now, and it helps buy a book for a child as well." Schwaner notes
that Books for Kids also receives a portion of the proceeds from writers who
sign up on the site in September and October. "Writers can find a way to reach
new readers while helping out a great cause."

As a way to increase the total amount that Books for Kids receives, Up
All Night Reading will be introducing additional Corporate and Affiliate
Sponsors. "It's a challenge to writers and readers to come out and support this effort for literacy, as well as to check out a brand new way for readers and writers to reach each other," Schwaner says. "The Internet is built to create a more direct system of
bringing books old and new to readers, and our model has the built-in
capability to be able to offer a way to constantly give back through
official non-profit affiliates like Books for Kids. Also,
Affiliate Sponsors can sign up now to join this initiative, and
their commissions during September and October will also benefit Books for Kids."

By visiting an Affiliate Sponsor site during Up All Night Reading, and then following
the link to GreatUNpublished.com, a reader or writer assures that 10% of their purchase or sign-up will go directly to Books for Kids. "It's the easiest way --and the most generous way--to make your buying power count," says Schwaner. "And it's the most direct way for a business to give back to the community. This is how the Internet can make things better for writers and readers today."

More information will be posted on the sites on September 1.
