Contemporary Latin-American and Latino Art on Exhibit in Wilmington, Delaware
A World of Latin-American Artists: Lands, People and Passions is the theme for this innovative exhibition...which features the contemporary art of Latin-American Artists from Colombia, Argentina and Brazil...to hard-edge Verdadism paintings from a Latina Artist from Harlem, New York City. On view from October 3rd, 2000 to November 25th, 2000 at the Delaware Art Museum's Downtown Gallery in the Mellon Bank Building at 919 North Market Street and the newly opened Edith & Alexander Giacco Building (adjacent to the Grand Opera House), this exhibition and its attendant programming, a collaborative effort between the Delaware Art Museum and Nuestras Raices (a non-profit Latin cultural organization) is designed to bring together some of the most vibrant forces in today's contemporary Latin-American and Latino art scene.
The art on view, selected from the permanent collection of the Delaware Art Museum and independent galleries, represents a wide variety of artists. Among them are Fernando Botero of Colombia, Eduardo Torassa of Argentina, Sebastiao Salgado of Brazil, Rafael Ferrar of Puerto Rico, Kenjo Fukuda of Brazil and Soraida Martinez of New York City. The intent of the collaboration is to reveal the unique perspective brought forward by these artists as they reflect a Latin cultural heritage within a broader international context. The public is invited to the exhibition opening on October 3rd, from 5:30-7:30PM, at both venues: 919 North Market St. and the Grand Opera House. For more information, please call the Delaware Art Museum at 302-571-9590.
