Perhaps surprisingly clear winners and losers emerge. Amongst the USA top ten airlines, Southwest Airlines scores well for quality, safety, comfort, timeliness and not losing baggage whilst United scores poorly on all these - though their web site rates well.

The worst of the big USA airlines for fatal accidents are still twice as safe as some well known European and Asian rivals and more than seven times as safe as the weaker airlines among the large internationals. However, for quality and comfort, some non-USA airlines lead and several can claim a fatality free record to match the USA airlines.
