San Francisco Bay Area Toys for Tots Campaign 2000
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 8, 2000 --Christmas is a time of joy, happiness and goodwill. It is a time of giving and helping those who are less fortunate than us. For more than 52 years, the Marines Corps Reserve has helped needy children have a better Christmas through their Toys for Tots" community service program.
Each holiday season Marines collect about 7 million toys bringing the joy of Christmas to almost 3.5 million kids throughout America—more than 55,000 children in the San Francisco Bay area alone.
Toys for Tots is truly a community effort. Led by the Marine Corps Reserve, the program depends on the support of local business to provide collection sites, give the program media exposure, help transport toys to children and donate services that make Toys for Tots work for kids. We need the help of a public willing to drop off unwrapped toys or make a contribution to the Toys for Tots Foundation to make a brighter Christmas for those with less.
Toys for Tots started in 1947 in Los Angeles under the direction of Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Hendricks. Recognizing a need, Hendricks and a handful of Marine Corps Reservists collected 5,000 toys that Christmas. Since then, the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program has distributed over 243 million toys to 121 million children throughout the nation, making the program one of the nations flagship Christmas charitable endeavors. To the children of Christmas, Semper Fidelis.
