Harlan Ellisons Hugo and Nebula Award Winning Story Released as Ebook

Chatham, NJ – Fictionwise.com announced today the eBook release of Harlan Ellisons multiple award-winning short story, ‘Repent, Harlequin! Said the Ticktockman." The short story, which won both the Hugo and Nebula awards in 1966, is one of the ten most reprinted short stories in history.

Stories that win both the Hugo and Nebula Awards are rare gems," said Stephen Pendergrast, co-publisher at Fictionwise.com. This story is no exception, and like many great works, it is more relevant today than when it was first published over three decades ago."

‘Repent, Harlequin! Said the Ticktockman" is available at Fictionwise.com (http://www.fictionwise.com) for 89 cents in popular eBook formats for Palms, Win CE devices, Pocket PCs, Rocket eBook Readers, and for personal computers in Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Reader formats.

In the story, time is considered so precious that it's a criminal offense to waste it. If someone is late, the delay is subtracted from his lifespan. The dreaded Ticktockman enforces the law and he must deal with a man called the Harlequin," who challenges this way of living. The work won the first Nebula Award ever presented for a short story and was the first to win both the Nebula and Hugo Awards in the same category in the same year.

Ellison wrote the story in 1965 in one six-hour session in order to submit it the next day at a writers workshop. The published work is as almost exactly the same as the first draft from his typewriter.

In a career spanning more than 40 years, Ellison has been recognized for the immense diversity of his writing. He has won more major awards than any other living fantasist, including the Edgar Allan Poe award twice (mystery), the Bram Stoker award six times (horror), the Hugo Award 8˝ times and the Nebula Award three times (science fiction/fantasy), the Silver Pen for Journalism, as well as awards for his extensive work in television and film. Ellison has published over 1,700 stories, essays, columns, and novels.

The San Francisco Chronicle described Harlan Ellison as: Lyric poet, satirist, explorer of odd psychological corners, moralist, purveyor of pure horror and black comedy; he is all of these and more."

Harlan Ellison has granted Fictionwise.com rights to 35 of his short stories for release as eBooks. The works include award-winning Ellison stories as well as works that are no longer in print and difficult to find.
