October 23, 2000 -- Del Webb Corporation (NYSE:WBB) has created a corporate Web site that loads fast, is engineered well and features smart navigation, reports LeFile.Com (http:lefile.com), the leading online Web management resource for senior corporate executives. However, it defeats itself with its stock-quotes page, LeFile notes.
LeFile conducts regular reviews of corporate Web sites to determine their effectiveness in communicating with investors, employees, customers and vendors, said William Dupuy, editor of LeFile.
Chosen at random, the Del Webb Corporation Web site (www.delwebb.com) is a model of sleek design and execution, Dupuy said, until the visitor gets to the stocks quote page. There, Del Webb has chosen to award a financial television cable network's Web site with the chore of delivering Dell Webb's stock quotes. The TV-Web page is built into the Del Webb page, to look like the two are one and the same.
The result, notes LeFile, is a page "within" the Del Webb site that inadvertently delivers every banner ad the TV-Web page has to offer -- banks, credit cards and long distance telephone companies among them.
Del Webb scores high marks in the LeFile review for its upfront approach to pre-announcing the Web cast of an earnings telephone conference call. The corporate site also features a well-designed jobs section and easy-to-use navigation system. The full review can be found at: http://lefile.com/articles/darts/DellWebb.htm
