ESPN/NFL FILMS TO AIR FEATURE STORY ABOUT AFA MINOR LEAGUE HALL of FAMER KING" CORCORAN and the FAMED POTTSTOWN FIREBIRDS
The American Football Association is honored to spread the word to football fans worldwide that ESPN and NFL Films will be running a two hour time slot about one of the most famous minor league football teams ever, the Pottstown (PA) Firebirds.
ESPN has been airing reruns of the old '69-70 Pottstown Firebirds lately as a teaser to the upcoming Classics of Football program which will be seen on Friday night, October 27th from 9pm to 11pm (EST). The Pottstown story (aired first) will be followed by a one hour feature highlighting several individuals who played, coached and managed the Firebirds in their hay days.
Through the combined efforts of ESPN and NFL Films the program producers have been able to interview some of the AFAs Minor Pro Football Hall of Famers in search of an answer to the question - what ever happened to the flamboyant King" of minor league football" - Jimmy King Corcoran?
Among the minor league AFA Hall of Famers being interviewed during the 'Classics of Football show are Ron Waller and Cluade Watts, both 'charter members (Class of '81) of the AFAs Minor League Football Hall of Fame. Phil Tuckett, NFL Films VP, is also a member of the AFAs HOF (Class of '90) and produced the original Pottstown Firebirds television production which gave him his start with NFL Films. The Firebirds coach Dave DeFilido, now deceased, was inducted in the AFA's Hall of Fame in 1992.
King Corcoran was enshrined into the AFAs Hall of Fame in 1982 and is credited with giving one of the funniest 'acceptance speeches in the 20 year history of Hall of Fame induction dinners. Then he disappeared from sight for a couple of decades. Minor league/semi-pro football fans worldwide wont want to miss the ESPN special on Friday, October 27th to see if Phil Tuckett and the NFL Film crew were able to resurrect the King of Minor League Football" - again.
