"Where'd You Get That?"...
...your friend asks about a treasured possession or family heirloom in the living room. And then you tell the story of your great antique hunt or Aunt Grace and how that wonderful little gizmo came into your possession. As you tell the story, you realize that you are now part of that object's history, too.
Cottage Classics is a website business specializing in transforming vintage fabrics, ceiling tin and other objects into beautiful and useful vintage details for your home. Each hand-tailored pillow, re-crafted piece of tin or other beautiful object comes with the story of where it came from... sometimes exciting, sometimes sad, always interesting.
Founder, Margie Fay, and her husband have collected beautiful objects and their histories from estate sales and individuals around the country, including 26 states and four Canadian provinces, so far.
One pillow recently featured on the website called, "Old Glory," was hand-painted in the early 1900's with the American flag by a woman for her grandfather. Since he was from Oklahoma, she included 46 stars (the 46th being for Oklahoma). He died before she finished the piece and it remained unfinished and in her attic for many years. Cottage Classics purchased it from her estate sale and now it resides as a pillow in a home of a woman originally from Oklahoma, who redecorated with a patriotic theme and its story becomes hers.
Another pillow came from lovely small valance panel, made in the 30's, from the 5th Avenue apartment of a famous film actress in New York. And tin from the ceiling of a New Hampshire Church, circa 1826, is now an eye-catching hall mirror.
You can see more than 50 different pillows, Christmas stockings, baby items and ceiling tin accessories, each with its own story on the company's website at http://www.CottageClassics.net.
