EggVote.com -- The Unpopularity Poll
The Radical New Way to Express Your Preferences for Politicians and Media Personalities
(New York) EggVote.com-The Unpopularity Poll set up in the summer of 2000 an innovative way for the public to eggs-press their political views. Instead of the traditional votes in favor of the candidates, visitors to EggVote.com "vote" for the persons they like the least. As the candidates' images move around the screen, the users try to hit them using virtual eggs.
"Speaking about elections, tell the presidential candidates egg-xactly what you think of them with this absorbing new online unpopularity poll," said Sam Meddis of USA Today on Aug. 23, 2000 when USA Today awarded EggVote.com its prestigious USA Today Hot Site award. "No voter registration required for this balloting."
Now, three USA Today Hot Site Awards later and over a quarter of a million egg-votes (300,208) registered in the presidential elections, EggVote.com has introduced a new interface and the option of voting on media political personalities. All kinds of wannabe and/or actual political commentators, from Jerry Springer and Oprah Winfrey to Larry King and Britt Hume, and from Matt Drudge and Bill O'Reilly to David Letterman and Regis Philbin are on the "ballot."
Due to popular demand and in response to recent political developments, EggVote.com set up Unpopularity Polls for the now contested Presidential race (www.eggvote.com/badacts/GoreBush/index_GoreBush.htm). In addition to the two Presidential Candidates in the now contested Presidential Election 2000, the 2 Major US Political Parties and the TV networks that helped creating the current situation are presented for "voting" on the site. Public participation in these polls continues strongly, with people of all walks of life freely egg-spressing their displeasure with the Election 2000 spectacle.
All results are "irrevocably" tabulated nationally "no matter how confused the egg-voter is" and are displayed on demand or when the egg-voting time is up. In addition, EggVote now features Political Humor (clever multimedia animations) pertinent to the current political events.
In response to international events, an EggVote International section has been added. Sponsored and heavily promoted by the biggest Romanian newspaper, "Romania Libera" (www.romanialibera.com), EggVote Romania 2000, The Unpopularity Poll for the Romanian Election (www.eggvote.com/ro) is in full swing. The 2000 elections in Romania (with general elections on November 26 and a runoff scheduled for December 10) are extremely critical for a former communist country, still trying to break away from its communist past and integrate in the democratic European community.
EggVote Romania is having an extraordinary success with Romanians. For the general elections, in only 2 weeks, the Romanians registered over half a million egg-votes (455,356) for the 12 Presidential Candidates. Manipulated by heavily financed propaganda and an apathetic electorate, the Romanian people are now presented with the choice between the "former" communist Iliescu and the ultra-nationalist Tudor for President. They will have to choose one or the other on December 10, 2000. Showing their displeasure with the loose-loose situation now created in the Romanian 2000 Election, the Romanians on the Internet already have logged 140,883 egg-votes for these 2 candidates.
A typical message, such as this one received from Dana Branzan: "I really enjoyed throwing eggs into my 'favorite' candidate for the Presidency." Mircea from Bucharest, Romania remarked "it might be a good idea to have this [egg-voting] done in reality, not just virtual reality." Even in the most delicate moments, "the Romanians find the resources to enjoy a good laughter" commented Radu from Denmark.
EggVote Romania also features EggVote Political Humor eggvote.com/ro/Humor/Placinta.htm pertinent to the current political situation in Romania.
More categories are added constantly in response to repeated demands from visitors. EggVote.com will continuously test the unpopularity of politicians, political commentators, political propagandists, sports stars, TV actors, movie stars, and any other celebrity worth a few virtual eggs.
"We have created a website based on a unique idea: voting for those you do not like," remarks Ovidiu Opresco, President of EggVote.com and creator of the EGGVOTE MACHINE. "I hope that everybody visiting this site will find it relaxing and enjoyable"
EggVote.com is free to all visitors and does not require registration. The website is located at www.eggvote.com.
