Critically acclaimed NO MINIMUM, musical spoof of lounge lizards, to premiere in NYC

SOURCEWORKS THEATRE is pleased to announce the New York City premiere of NO MINIMUM, the critically acclaimed musical comedy by ROY LEAKE JR., APRIL WINCHELL and JAMES MAY that skewers lounge acts and nightclub singers seeking fame, fortune and recognition on the Holiday Inn circuit. Helmed by Producing Artistic Director MARK CANNISTRARO and featuring SANDY ROSENBERG (Agnes Gooch in Paper Mill Playhouses revival of Mame) and BEN LIPITZ (Cameron Macintoshs Just So), the show begins performances on March 3rd at 8:00 PM and runs on Fridays at 8:00 PM through April 22nd at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE, 61 Christopher Street. Tickets are $15 plus a two drink minimum (hows that for irony?) and are available by calling (212) 255-5438.

Taking its cue from the likes of Greater Tuna and The Mystery Of Irma Vep, NO MINIMUM features two versatile performers who portray a dozen showbiz hopefuls and has-beens searching for fame and fortune in seedy lounges and cabaret that make up the underbelly of the entertainment industry.Set in various low rent boites around the country, the show introduces us to such unforgettable characters as Nick & Vicki, a husband and wife singing team whose marital disharmony routinely spills into their club act; The Chai-Los, a pair of extremely elderly, memory challenged Yiddish vaudevillians celebrating their 65th (or is it 67th?) year in show biz; and The Crullers, once folk musics answer to the Von Trapp Family Singers (they traveled around the country from gig to gig in their RV), now reduced to just the dad and one reluctant-to-perform daughter.

When it originally premiered in Los Angeles, NO MINIMUM won seven Dramalogue awards and was nominated by LA Weekly for its "Production Of The Year." The Los Angeles Times wrote that the show "hilariously recreates the world of the lounge lizard...this is sharp stuff." The Daily Californian called NO MINIMUM "hilarious...anyone who has ever sat at a piano bar, even by mistake, will laugh their heads off." The Blade Citizen said that the show is "an unmitigated hoot...a hilarious sendup of the stars of the third rate cabaret circuit."

SANDY ROSENBERG received critical plaudits for her portrayal of Agnes Gooch in the Paper Mill Playhouses recent revival of Mame with Christine Ebersole. Other credits include Broadways The Scarlet Pimpernel, and Jekyll & Hyde (pre-Broadway tour). Ms. Rosenberg was honored with three Dramalogue Awards for her performances in West Coast productions of Personals, Seranading Louie and Bedroom Farce, and an LA Weekly award for Best Musical Performer for her work in the Sondheim revue Youre Gonna Love Tomorrow. BEN LIPITZ was featured as the Rhino in Cameron Macintoshs Just So (Goodspeed Opera House) and has appeared in productions at New York Theatre Workshop, Primary Stages, Naked Angels and Ensemble Studio Theatre. Regional credits include Laughter On The 23rd Floor (Walnut Street Theatre, Cleveland Playhouse), Sheer Madness at the Kennedy Center and several roles at the Florida Shakespeare Festival.

MARK CANNISTRARO recently directed SourceWorks critically acclaimed production of The Velocity Of Gary (Not His Real Name) with Danny Pintauro of TVs "Whos The Boss." Other credits include the original NYC production of Fairy Tales, Eric Lane Barnes musical revue about gay life which transferred to off-Broadways WPA Theatre (1998 Back Stage Bistro Award for Outstanding Direction and Outstanding Musical Revue); Tom Jacobsons LA hit Cyberqueer; and popular revivals of Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You and Vampire Lesbians Of Sodom.Musical Direction is by DANIEL HARRIS and Musical Staging by JACKSON McDORMAN, both of whom performed those tasks for the SourceWorks and WPA production of Fairy Tales. Costumes are by SourceWorks resident designer DAVID KALEY, who was also the Associate Costume Designer for off-Broadways The Donkey Show.###
