Bruce David Named Michigan Newspapers GM
Lansing, MI--Michigan Press Association Executive Director, Mike MacLaren, has named Bruce David to the general manager post, replacing Bill Donahue.
David was hired as an MNI marketing specialist last October. Before coming to Michigan Newspapers Inc., he owned WorthPromoting Inc., publishers of regional business journals, trade shows, seminars and videotapes geared toward small business.
David started working in newspapers in 1976 as a writer for the Mesa Tribune (Ariz.), a Cox Newspaper property. A year later he moved into an advertising position with a sister daily paper, the Tempe Daily News.
From 1982 to 1985 he was the midwest advertising director for the trade journal division of Harcourt Brace Jovanovich.
In 1988, David was the first publisher in the country to develop a computer disk-based media kit; an innovation which earned him ink in Folio, Magazine Week, Ad Age and others.
David also wrote a best selling how-to marketing advice manual in the late 1980s called "Mercenary Marketing: How to promote your business for less than $1000."
David admits he has work cut out for him with the Michigan Press Association. Founded in 1868, it's a trade group which represents all of the daily and weekly newspapers in Michigan and through its marketing arm, Michigan Newspapers, the group offers free ad placement and public relations services statewide and nationally.
David has been instrumental in redeveloping the MNI website to become more interactive and in developing new marketing programs and web related affiliate programs for the association.
The association is based in Lansing, Michigan and their website is: http://www.michiganpress.org
