Going mobile with mobile technology.
Toronto, Canada – Your laptop just crashed and you lost three months worth of crucial data. You call tech support, and
while you are on hold your mobile phone cuts out. The product reviews on the web said these things wouldn't happen.
Ever wonder under what circumstances the reviewer tested the product? Most likely it was sitting at a computer, on a
desk in a nice cozy office.
That's why Brad Mills, 18, and Fabrizio Pilato, 20, decided to create their own web-based company called
TwoMobile.com They are going mobile with mobile technology.
Mills and Pilato have created a web site that provides unbiased mobile technology reviews of products. The product
reviews are created while traveling and using the actual products in a realtime environment. Taking on the persona of
1940s style investigative reporters, the two will go on the road, à la Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, equipped with an
arsenal of current mobile technologies. Product reports will be posted daily to their web site, along with stories of their
adventures. They will put mobile technology to the real mobile test.
TwoMobile.com (http://www.twomobile.com) is the latest company to come out of the Toronto-based NRG Factory, an
internet startup business run by young entrepreneurs. TwoMobile.com hopes to join the likes of NRG Factory
entrepreneurial success story and co-founder Michael Furdyk, who has already started two different Internet companies:
mydesktop.com and buybuddy.com.
Dressed in matching all-black suits and fedoras in the style of an era before either of them was born, they talk excitedly
about their upcoming adventures.
"We hope to create interest around not only how we do what we are doing, but also who we are being," said Mills. "We
think going on the road adds value to our product reviews. Anyone can review a mobile product from a nice warm cozy
office, but how real or mobile is that? We hope that portraying ourselves as the hard-nosed investigators of mobile
technologies gets across the idea that we are out to tell the truth and offer unbiased product reviews.
"And get us noticed." adds Pilato with a sly smile.
Mills and Pilato hope to get noticed at Mobile Focus '99 and Comdex '99 in Las Vegas, where they will attend "in
character" equipped with full press credentials. Along with promoting the launch of their site they will investigate many of
the new products traditionally launched at the event. Their goal is to make as many companies as possible aware of what
it is they are up to.
Much of the corporate sector has already bought into the TwoMobile.com concept. They have had products committed
to them from more than 20 companies such as Compaq, Polaroid, Fujifilm, Sony, Nokia, Ericsson and others.
