Gis-a-WAP!
For general release 09 Mar 2000
Gis-a-WAP!
Not content with being the UK's first (and largest) free recruitment site,
net entrepreneurs Gis-a-Job Ltd www.gisajob.com are now the UK's
first WAP enabled job site.
WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) is an initiative started by Unwired
Planet, Motorola, Nokia and Ericsson to develop a standard for wireless
content delivery on the next generation of mobile communicators.
The number of people using mobile access to the Internet (e.g. via GSM
and their laptop or PDA) is increasing rapidly, and the number of mobile
phone users is growing much more rapidly than the number of Internet users
(there are more than 120 million GSM users today).
Gis-a-Job Ltd Managing Director David Brown says "Research has shown
that more and more people are signing up to WAP ISPs. The ethos of
Gisajob is that it is accessible to as many people as possible for free - it
makes
sense to have a WAP version of the site."
He continued, "Once we'd made the decision, it was simply a case of writing
a WAP version of the site. WML (Wireless Markup Language) isn't that
dissimilar to HTML, so the whole process was very quick. We're proud to
be the first job search site in the UK to offer this service to mobile
users."
