Online Resource Adopts Corporate Underwriting Model from Public Broadcasting
Berkeley, Calif. - March 29, 2000 - MetroVox.org, a leading online source for jobs, housing and information, today announced Exite@Home, one of the visited sites on the World Wide Web, has become it's first corporate sponsor. Using the model of corporate underwriting familiar from public broadcasting, the two organizations are showing how for-profit and non-profit web-based enterprises can collaborate to serve the Internet community.
Eric Seltzer, a senior recruiter at Excite@Home, sees MetroVox.org as offering an effective way to reach job seekers who have the skills employers like Excite are looking for. It also offers another means of creating broader awareness of what Excite is beyond merely being a search engine. In recent years, Excite@Home has become a leading Internet media company and broadband channel.
Why do MetroVox and Excite make good partners?
Excite is a leader in broadband and MetroVox.org is working to become a leader in providing information and resources to the online community. MetroVox.org, a non-profit social venture based on the model advocated by Gary Hirshberg, founder and president of Stonyfield Farms, is also looking for ways to provide service to its users free of charge or for a very nominal fee. Corporate underwriting is a natural vehicle for making this happen.
