Parenting Cards Offered by Canadian Nonprofit
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SALT SPRING ISLAND, BC (April 21, 2000) - The Natural Child Project Society today announced the launch of The Parenting Cards (TM). Created by Jan Hunt, a Canadian psychologist, the cards serve to raise funds for the non-profit organization.
To help parents treat their children with empathy and understanding, Canadian psychologist Jan Hunt has created sets of 100 small Parenting Cards as a fundraiser for her nonprofit organization. According to Hunt, the card messages offer gentle guidance in dealing with everyday parenting issues in a realistic, humane, and respectful way that enhances the bond between parent and child."
The most loving parents can lose their composure during tense moments, and do something they may regret for a long time. Parents report that even one card message can help to ease a difficult situation by reminding them that the parent-child bond is their highest priority. While Hunt hopes that her messages will help prevent child abuse, most parents using the cards are simply seeking day-to-day inspiration and encouragement. Children especially love the small cards, and have been known to offer one to a parent as a sweet supportive gesture.
The card statements reflect Hunt's belief that all children deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, understanding, and compassion". There are thoughtful reminders (Look through your childs eyes... what do you see?", timely suggestions (Find the humor."), and practical ideas (Create one of tomorrows cherished memories today.")
Professional counselors and parents are impressed. "It is wonderful for parents and all those who have contact with children to have at their fingertips these helpful reminders that children require understanding, tenderness and a nurturing attitude from others in order to grow appropriately and well." writes Arizona psychologist James Kimmel, Ph.D. As a young Vancouver mother wrote, My daughter feels empowered and safe by being able to approach me in my tense moments and by knowing that I will respond in a gentle and loving way."
Ms. Hunt has worked with parents for many years, and had wanted to find a way to help more families beyond those she counseled through her popular advice column and articles. "It is my belief that every parent wants to do the best for their children. We can all use some guidance at times, but counseling is not always readily available." says Hunt, who holds a Masters degree in child psychology.
Proceeds from the cards support the work of The Natural Child Project Society, a nonprofit organization registered in Canada. Their web site provides parenting information and advice by noted psychologists and researchers, and receives over 5000 page accesses per day from 128 countries.
The Parenting Cards are being offered for $9.95 per set, postage included. To learn more about the cards and to order them online or by mail, visit www.naturalchild.org. For more information write to janhunt@naturalchild.org
