- New feature of MyKidSource, Daily Parenting E-mail Newsletters
SAN JOSE - KidSource OnLine(R) announces the launch of a new series of educationalactivities, called "Meet Professor Tobbs" that have been designed to notonly teach children math, but to teach children how to think. These thought-provoking activities, developed by Professor Tom O'Brien, can befound at the KidSource site at http://www.kidsource.com/tobbs/ and are also a new feature of KidSource's daily parenting mailings entitled'MyKidSource'.
"Meet Professor Tobbs" is a new series based upon the award-winningresearch of Prof. O'Brien, a professor emeritus at Southern IllinoisUniversity. This book series has been released in 3 volumes, one for eachset of ages 3-5; 5-7 and 7-10. Unlike other math activities that focuson 'drills' and 'repetition', these activities focus on
teachingchildrenhow to solve problems, and to how to develop key cognitive thinkingabilities while mastering core computational skills.
"My grade-school son and I have been doing these activities together forthe past several months", said Karen Dillon, Founder and President of KidSource OnLine. "It's amazing to watch how his thinking skills havedeveloped as he's done these activities. The "aha, I got it" look on hisface when he solves a problem is very gratifying. I'm pleased that we areworking with Prof. O'Brien to offer these activities to other families".
KidSource OnLine is releasing these activities in two areas:
- On the KidSource site at http://www.kidsource.com/tobbs/. Here visitors will find a set of activities, background information, research articles and other books by Prof. O'Brien. New activities will be added frequently and regularly to this area.
