A choreographer named Josephine dies and goes to heaven where she is granted everything she could ever possibly need or want to create her work; beautiful space, fantastic dancers, singers, actors, plus unlimited time and funding. In this perfect world, however, she is forced to look at the real obstacles to her creativity which she discovers are completely self-imposed.
Her impediments are personified by creepy characters such as the addictive Fixx, played by John Hartmann; the pathetic yet sexy Mercy performed by Kelly Sue DeConnick, Doom and Gloom (a pair of wet blankets to remind her of her in-adequacies) portrayed by Renée Torrière and Patrick Tarpey, and the non-evangelical guide, Phil, performed by Jason Grossman.
The dancers are Leigh Garrett (Honesty), Katie Workum (Humor) and Ayla Yavin (Courage). Rory Gregg DeSoto performs as the Angel. Josephine is played by Sharon Fogarty, who is also the composer and choreographer. Lighting is designed by David Alan Comstock.
Fogarty's off and off-off broadway plays include Bride of Frankenstein~ an experiment in intimacy, Feminine Monsters throughout History, BACH Remedies~ hysterical essays on depression, Poor Jayne and Her Rich Life, Making Light, Dances for a Small Planet and True Love Stories. Fogarty is a graduate from SUNY Brockport and has performed with Meredith Monk, Ping Chong, Susan Osberg, Doug Elkins, Sarah Sugihara, Dan Wagoner and Anna Sokolow. She has studied theater at Chicago City Limits and performs regularly with Loos Scrooz and Funny… Sheesh sketch/improv groups. Her band The Dinosaur Sisters are scheduled to release their first cd this Fall, 2000.
" 'heaven' is an incarnation of every artists' life, nightmares, and finally, triumphs." -Antimatters Magazine.
"Fogarty has mixed humor and terror with deft hand." - Backstage.
"Her work is fully honest - the highest compliment to any work of art. It is also tragically funny - hysterical in several senses of the word." - Buffalo Spectrum.
"Beneath that innocent surface lurked an antic sense of humor and a very peculiar way of looking at the world." - NY Times.
"Rarely do comedy and dance meet. Woody Allen writes about it, Fogarty walks the walk." - Village Voice.
