Plug pulled on worlds first Charity Portal
Hout Bay, South Africa
Candor.com announced today that it would be ‘pulling the plug on www.isisa.co.za - the worlds first Philanthropic website portal in the next three weeks.
ISISA received the highest rating for Websites of excellence by local Internet Service Provider, IAFRICA as well as being ‘A Net Guide Gold Site award winner. ISISA was founded back in 1996 as a non-profit charity organisation to procure national and international support for those South African charities in need. ISISA has over 22 members including the likes of Amnesty International, Reach for a Dream Foundation and the Aids Foundation of South Africa and had aspirations of ultimately having all of South Africas charities listed under one umbrella.
ISISA was Candor.coms pilot test site for its own Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and credit card transaction technology. Any charity that registered with ISISA got their own web page with a description of what the organisation does at no cost to the charity. Once the end-user has selected a charity they had the option of paying by credit card or debit order.
Candor.coms chairmen, Dietmar Frey says, Although there are some charities that have benefited from the portal, it hasnt yielded the expected returns. We have invested vast amounts of resources and time over the last 4 years into this project but the fact remains that we are a technology company and what is really needed for ISISA to be successful is a market driver."
These sentiments were echoed by Candor.coms Managing Director, Wido Schnabel, The portal is a brilliant concept to open the wallets of generous surfers and has been welcomed by charity organisations across the globe. We are trying desperately to find a corporate sponsor to take ownership of this project. A sponsor who has vast marketing resources and fund raising expertise. But no one thus far has heeded the call."
Schnabel concludes, We believe that ISISA would revolutionise philanthropy and we hoped that our investment of time and money which ran into the tens of thousands would translate to hundreds of thousands of Rands for charity. It is a project that has remained close to our hearts and its regrettable that it didnt reach its full potential."
