Lake Forest, CA (June 29, 2000) -- Imtran, Inc. announced today that they have been chosen to automate key data collection systems for the State of Hawaii and Maricopa County (Phoenix, AZ). The two contracts represent a major expansion of Imtrans projects outside of California.

State of Hawaii
Over 6 million people visit Hawaii each year. Every person coming from the U.S. fills out a visitor survey card on the airplane. These tourists make up a major part of Hawaiis economy (www.hawaii.gov). Measuring the impact of tourism on the states economy requires accurate and timely information such as the number of visitors, which islands they will visit, how much they spend, where they are from, how many are in their group, etc. These figures are widely reported in Hawaii every month as an indicator of economic health.

Imtran is providing a sophisticated image-based system that will scan visitor surveys and automatically place the information into a database with minimal manual intervention. Over 2 million surveys per year will scanned through the system.

The new system will allow the State of Hawaii to cut processing time in half and reduce the number of operations personnel. Another benefit is the addition of handprinted data collection fields to the forms for questions on spending amounts.

Maricopa County (Phoenix, AZ)
Maricopa is home to Phoenix and is Arizonas largest county. The Trip Reduction Program (TRP") is mandated by the State of Arizona. The programs goal is to improve the air quality by reducing commuting mileage for employers with 50 or more employees. Employers are required by law to fill out the forms on a periodic basis.

Maricopa Countys Division of Trip Reduction (http://www.maricopa.gov/sbeap/trplwnvr.htm) administers this statute. They are responsible for distributing and processing 5,000 TRP surveys a day. The surveys provide the information necessary to monitor program compliance.

Imtran is combining the latest in imaging hardware, software and custom programming to scan the trip reduction surveys, place the data into the existing database and store the original images for later retrieval. The impetus for the new project was replacement of an existing eight year-old system that is no longer manufactured or supported.
