THE MUSICDISH GENOME PROJECT HITS MILESTONE AS THE HUMAN GENOME PROJECT REACHES ONE AS WELL
The project recently celebrated its 1000th submission, half of which are artist websites.
New York - July 3, 2000 - Earlier last week, President Clinton announced that scientists working on the Human Genome Project had neared completion of mapping nearly all of the 50,000 genes in the human body - a scientific breakthrough. Today, Sounni de Fontenay, COO & Publisher of Tag It, a new media company based in Astoria, New York, announced that MusicDish (www.musicdish.com), one of the online music publications owned and operated by Tag It, had reached a milestone in its own Music Genome Project.
Since September 1999, Tag It has been working on the MusicDish Genome Project, the purpose of which is to identify and catalogue the best music related sites on the Internet. The project recently celebrated its 1000th submission, half of which are artist websites. To maintain the highest integrity possible and ensure the validity of all websites that are submitted to MusicDish's Genome Project (www.musicdish.com/genome/), the staff of MusicDish inspect each and every site to ensure that the site meets certain quality & relevance standards.
Addressing the need for the MusicDish Genome Project, Sounni de Fontenay said, "While we certainly wouldn't compare the impact of mapping music related websites to the importance of sequencing and mapping all of the genes that together comprise the human body, it should be recognized that the Internet is a very dynamic, complex, and ever evolving form of communication, education, business and entertainment. Being in the music industry, we know that there are a plethora of resources, and a lot of music professionals who do not necessarily know how to best access and utilize those resources. With the MusicDish Genome Project, our goal is to bring the two together through a very organized and comprehensive database that will be the ultimate source for anyone's music related needs, whether that person is an artist, a record label executive, or a music enthusiast!"
Mr. de Fontenay added, "The MusicDish Genome Project will be an ongoing process, as new online presences are established and others make an exit. We want to provide consistently reliable and fresh data, and there's only one way to do that ñ proper and careful maintenance."
Online music websites within the following music related categories are invited to submit their websites to the MusicDish Genome Project:
- Record labels
- Promotions
- Management
- Resources
- Radio/Video
- Zines/Newsletters
- Retail/E-Commerce
- Artists/Bands
- Software/Hardware Manufacturers
- Production/Studio
- Associations/Organizations
- Music Technology
