New Jersey Teen-Terror duo "SHELL" release "Swell" sounds
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
"SHELL IS SWELL"
The Abaton Book Company is proud to announce the release of:
"SHELL IS SWELL"
AVAILABLE: July 4, 2000
WHAT IS SHELL IS SWELL?
Seventeen-year-old Jersey girls Marianne Nowottny and Donna Bailey.
They have been playing together 4 1/2 years.
"SHELL IS SWELL" is their debut cd.
In 1998 Abaton released a limited edition cassette tape of their home recordings entitled
SHELL vs. NEU! which caught the ear of
NYPress writer/WFMU d.j. Kenneth Goldsmith who admired
its "Strange...echoey vocals and keyboards [its] mix of found sounds
and music." Mike Wolf, writing in TimeOut New York,
said "the whole tape is flush with stray sounds flying around
like possessed little gypsies, and its overall expressiveness
would stand up against just about anything."
In "SHELL IS SWELL," Marianne and Donna plug in their electronic keyboards,
crank up the volume, and proceed to blow psychotic thought bubbles around
shimmering, twisted sonic explosions.
Simply beautiful in form and spirit, this cd promises to dismantle
your brain and heart in the ironic landscape of 21st century hi-jinks. That is why
"SHELL IS SWELL." An amazing take on electronic/bubblegum singalongs
and gothteen-girlpop; digitally mastered by New York musician/composer Elliott Sharp.
