SEA is awarded $1.18M Modification to HALT contract
(PRWEB) September 15, 2000 -than-lethal Technologies (HALT) contract. Previous Modifications to the HALT contract were awarded to SEA in 1998 and 1999. The initial $1.2 million HALT contract was awarded to SEA by the Electronic Systems Center/PKR; Air Force Material Command in September 1997. The latest increment awarded for an additional $1.18M is intended to accomplish design modifications necessary for moderate production rates.
The HALT physical security device is a laser-diode illuminator self-contained in a package that can be mounted on an M-16 rifle. The output beam from the illuminator is designed to be eye-safe (below the Maximum Permissible Exposure defined by international laser safety standards) at any distance from the device. When the laser is activated with a switch, the beam is directed out of the aperture toward a target at working ranges up to 400 meters. The operator is able to change the field of view from a narrow to wide beam and visa-versa by the use of a lever on either side of the body of the physical security device.
HALT has been designed for use as a physical security device to initially provide a language independent warning to an adversary by projecting a large red spot on the subjects chest. The adversarys reaction to the warning provides threat assessment. If the subject continues to advance, the beam can be placed in the face, slowing advancement and temporarily jamming the adversarys vision in the direction of the laser.
Under this contract, SEA will design, manufacture, test, and deliver fifteen pre-production prototype items of the HALT equipment.
