As much as we hate to admit it, the first day "Back-To-School" can be very stressful for most families. Children must deal with the new changes of school life. Managing a family isnt easy. There are so many priority issues. How do I handle increased work responsibilities while dealing with my family situation? How do I handle all of my childrens activities (soccer, football, school field trips, church, etc.)? These problem can easy lead into overcommitting to childrens activities and sacrificing family time. An engineering couple, not family counselors, have developed some solutions. Daryl and Estraletta Green, both thirtysomething with three active children, are among the leading authorities for GenXers on helping working families gain more control of their lives. The Greens apply a logical approach gained from their engineering and management backgrounds, coupled with a spiritual focus, to help solve family priority problems. We struggle like most of todays families. We have three active children. We have had to juggle it all…the soccer, football, karate, and all sorts of things. It can be so overwhelming. Most people dont even stop to think why they are doing those things." says Daryl, of Knoxville, Tenn. The Greens have been helping other families set goals and develop family plans. They present workshops across the country and write a nationally syndicated column. The Greens offer some suggestions to help parents minimize their blues:
1. Plan, Plan, Plan
2. Develop family focus
3. Establish a family calendar
4. Prioritize family activities
5. Learn to listen to children
6. Set aside time for family time
7. Limit the number of children activities
The Greens have developed a list of their top 50 time management tips to assist families with achieving their goals on their website, www.afamilyvision.com. Estraletta sees this Web site as a positive opportunity for all families. "Our web page offers helpful hints to families in search of solutions. This Web site will expand our ability to help others, regardless of their location," she explains. The Greens understand the stresses that occur during a new school year.
The Greens focus on a new process designed to assist families with managing competing priorities called Meshing. This approach is outlined in his nationally recognized book, My Cup Runneth Over: Setting Goals for Single Parents and Working Couples. They have been noted and quoted in such local and national programs such as USA Today, NBCs Alive at Five, The Hallerin Hill Show, The Dave Scott Show, Heavens 600, Beyond the Headlines, The Bev Smith Show, BETs Buy The Book, and Ebony Magazine.
Daryl and Estraletta Green are available for interviews. Please call (865) 670-0653 or e-mail them at pmla@att.net to schedule an interview.
