Graphical Tool Captures Common Experience To Expand Programming Public: SoftWIRE 2.0 Marks New Direction in Computer Productivity

MIDDLEBORO, Mass.—September 19, 2000—Measurement Computing Corporation today announced the release of SoftWIREä 2.0, Graphical Programming Add-In for Microsoft® Visual Basic 6.0. SoftWIRE, a technological breakthrough in programming tools, allows non-programmers to take advantage of the Visual Basic environment to quickly create powerful programs. No programming experience is required.
SoftWIRE 2.0 expands existing capabilities to include advanced database, TCP/IP, arithmetic, financial and analysis functions. Controls that interface with Microsoft Excel and Access provide seamless office application integration. With more than 130 SoftWIRE-enabled ActiveX controls, revision 2.0 expands SoftWIRE beyond measurement and control, into office and Web automation.
SoftWIRE Technology is to Visual Basic what Visual Basic was to traditional BASIC. Combining graphical and visual programming in the worlds most popular programming environment makes the computer infinitely more powerful," said Bendrix Bailey, CEO, SoftWIRE Technology, LLC and chairman, Measurement Computing Corporation. The reason why SoftWIRE graphical programming controls are easy to learn and use may be simply stated: I recognize it, I understand how it works, and I can wire these things together. The entire system is based on common sense and common knowledge."

New SoftWIRE functions include:
·   Four new Excel functions with options to create charts as well as read and write spreadsheets
·   Three new database options that allow users to run a query builder, create a database grid, and read and write from a Access, Oracle or SQL databases
·   Network Communications controls for network broadcasters and tuners, network listen, request and respond for inter-network communications, and a full suit of TCP/IP communications controls
·   Financial and advanced arithmetic controls that provide a variety functions including statistical analysis, accounting equations and trigonometry computations
·   Serial Communications controls for communicate with serial peripherals of all types

Test and measurement engineers will be pleased to find that SoftWIRE 2.0 enhances its existing graphical interfaces such as the oscilloscope, strip chart, digital voltmeter, among others, and increases functionality of its data acquisition properties. Additionally, new X10 controls and a periodic light/appliance timer control easily regulate or automate office and home security systems. Many of the new controls are purely graphical such that all properties and variables are set by modifying and coloring graphical displays.
The more I use SoftWIRE, the more I like the program," said Lou Bedard, mechanical engineer at Setra Systems, Inc. This program enables our staff to quickly program powerful applications without learning to write hard code."

SoftWIRE Development Kits
SoftWIRE also offers a third-party development kit for professional programmers to create custom SoftWIRE controls. The kit includes architectural information and code samples, which show how to create SoftWIRE-enabled ActiveX controls. The SoftWIRE SDK is free to developers and owners of SoftWIRE.
SoftWIRE Technology LLC, is the sole owner of SoftWIRE and the SoftWIRE logo," said Bailey. All controls developed for use with SoftWIRE must be tested and certified in our lab prior to distribution.. The SoftWIRE logo on a control is your guarantee of quality and computational integrity."
