GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT PEPID
PEPID, the Portable Emergency & Primary Care Information Database is the only complete medical and pharmacological database downloadable to Pocket PC's and PALM's. The Database is fully indexed and linked, allowing for fast accurate searching.
The visionary behind PEPID is Dr. Mark Rosenbloom, a Stanford MBA and an emergency department physician. With the growth in the use of handheld computers, Dr. Rosenbloom envisioned the day when all ER doctors would have ready access to all the information and situations that could be possibly called upon in the emergency department...and then he went about creating PEPID.
PEPID LLC is a private company with 6 full time employees. In addition to Dr. Rosenbloom, another notable member of the staff is Jeffrey Heilbrunn, head of marketing. Mr. Heilbrunn is an author, college instructor, and the past president of the American Marketing Association. Currently there are around 2,000 users of PEPID.
Initially targeted to the emergency department physician, markets for the PEPID database now include critical care nurses, ED nurses, nurse practitioners, family physicians, emergency medical technicians, and physician assistants. The included drug and herbal database has been found quite useful for pharmacists and psychiatrists. The military medics community has shown interest in the product as well. Also, several pharmaceutical companies have considered giving PEPID as a replacement for passing out many of the hard bound references they currently give to their physician customers.
PEPID is now edited by leading emergency medicine physicians. The Editor in Chief, Dr. James Adams, Chief of Emergency Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (Chicago) has section editors of renown such as Dr. John Marks, Dr. Ron Walls, and dozen of others updating PEPID on a continuous basis.
PEPID was favorably reviewed in JAMA in March 2000. PEPID was noted as "easiest to use" and "highly recommended for use in the emergency department". PEPID is ideal for medical professionals including all physicians, nurses, and medical students. Pharmacists, physician assistants, emergency medical technicians, and even psychiatrists have found PEPID to be invaluable. PEPID also had a favorable review in the Canadian Journal of Emergency Medicine and has received countless accolades from users like Scott Rudkin, University of California Irvine Medical Center who said "I Love PEPID! It's exceptionally useful and fully comprehensive. I would say that it is an indispensable tool."
Find any situation that might come up in the field of emergency medicine...quickly. Sections cover resuscitation, trauma, toxicology, procedures, environment, as well as sub-specialties like pediatrics. Also covered are organ systems like neurology, pulmonary, cardiology, urology, orthopedics, infectious disease, pain management, and much more. The pharmacological section also has references to herbal remedies and carries a complete overdose and antidote management section.
Featured on the television show "ER"...PEPID comes complete with its own seamless installation program. New lower priced licensing and updating services. Six month license $39.95 (formerly $299); monthly updates available for $50 annual subscription or $15 for bi-annual updates. Updated continuously.
Special editions of PEPID are now in progress for nurses and for family practice physicians. Internet version available on request. Wireless under consideration...considering the ramifications of wireless use in hospital and ED setting.
