eSchool Solutions expands SchoolSmart Suite, acquires Webivore Knowledge Systems
Orlando, FL -- January 25, 2001 -- eSchool Solutions, formerly TSSi MicroSage, announces the acquisition of Webivore Knowledge Systems, Boston, Massachusetts.
This expands the companyÂs Teaching & Learning Solutions Suite, which now provides award-winning Internet-based research technology to PreK-12 students, teachers and parents, both at school and at home. Parents and educators at most of the nationÂs schools encourage Internet-based research, though they must remain cautious of inappropriate sites. Additionally, parents and students often face hours of search time for each writing project.
Webivore addresses these concerns by offering a collection of more than 12,000 sites, all of which have been reviewed by scholars and academicians for age and content appropriateness. The sites are indexed by key words, allowing the student to quickly drill down to their topic of interest. Each search results in a site preview and Webivore offers Âhot tips as to the subjectÂs most effective use. Once students have identified web sites that are relevant to their research, WebivoreÂs Collect capability enables them to easily Âclick and save web-based information from the site, add their own notes and automatically save the data.
Another key feature unique to Webivore is the automatic transfer of bibliographic information created in a personal Notebook with the saved material. Information from the Notebook can then be easily integrated into the studentÂs word processing program, presentation, or web publisher software package to create the final report. Since general Internet research is so broad, students are usually unable to discern whether the information presented is true and accurate. Teachers advocate the use of Webivore, since each site has been reviewed and the student can concentrate on the Âtime-on-task of writing.
Webivore was recognized as a 2000 Codie Award Finalist and won the 1999 Districts Choice Award from Curriculum Administrator. Additionally, Webivore was chosen ÂBest Internet Resource by Media & Methods Magazine and earned the ÂTech Learning award from Technology & Learning Magazine.
Dr. Joseph Wise, Chairman and CEO of Orlando-based eSchool Solutions said that Webivore was selected because of its strong contribution to advancing student performance. He added, ÂWebivore is the perfect addition to promote our overall goal of providing the best integrated technology solutions for school districts. This partnership illustrates our commitment to improving student performance and school district effectiveness through the intelligent use of technology. Dr. Cecilia Lenk, Webivore Knowledge Systems Co-Founder and Executive Vice-President for Information Design, said, ÂWe are very happy to be beginning a relationship with eSchool Solutions, because we share the same commitment to enabling student excellence.Â
