MapShots Makes TIGER Data Available On-Line
Cumming, GA
Feb 5, 2001
MapShots, a software firm specializing in providing solutions for agricultural data management, announces that subsets of Tiger97 data in ESRI Shapefile format can now be downloaded free from their website at http://www.mapshots.com/downloads/tiger.asp
The download includes several Shapefiles zipped into a single download file. A zip file may be downloaded for every county in the United States. The converted data includes:
· Major roads
· Minor roads
· Miscellaneous ground transportation
· Streams
· Bodies of water
· Political divisions
· Cities
· Urban areas
Tiger features that are not commonly used in Agriculture have been omitted when the data was converted from Tiger97 into Shapefile format.
The downloaded data can be used immediately within MapShots agricultural GIS tools, and it will be themed properly. And, because the data is in the commonly used ESRI Shapefile format, it can also be accessed from within other GIS and mapping solutions.
By making the data available as a free download, MapShots hopes to make it easier for its customers and other people involved in agriculture to have access to this data as background reference images.
MapShots was formed in 1999. Their primary business is the development of spatial extensions for non-spatial agricultural software. Some of their customers include Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., Deere and Company, 1st Ag, and Ag Connections, Inc.
