Netline Combats Nuisance Caused By Cellular Phone
Netline Communications technologies (NCT) founded by former electronic warfare experts from the military has developed technology to alleviate the growing nuisance of unwanted, and in some cases dangerous, cellular phone traffic.
The product, called C-Guard, was developed by Netline Technologies, based in Tel Aviv. The device eliminates cell phone traffic in designated areas such as movie theaters, concert halls, and university lecture rooms, where the ringing of cell phones has become a nuisance worldwide.
Netline is exploring licensing opportunities for C-Guard in major markets such as the United States and Europe. The device is based on electronic warfare technology, and uses a technique called control channel signaling to block cellular traffic, said Meir Amarin, Sales and Marketing Director of Netline. "What we basically do is to prevent the handshake between the handset and the base station in a designated area," said Amarin.
This is done by transmitting a low-power signal to the handset that prevents any effective communications with the closest base station, a communication necessary to place or receive a cell phone call.
C-Guard unit the size of a standard cell phone could prevent cell phone traffic in a large symphony hall. But the market for C-Guard is not limited to public places. "Two other key areas are the defense and security market, where there is a growing demand for enforcement of usage policies regarding cellular phone use," Amarin said.
The device could also be used, he said, in places like hospitals, laboratories, and airplanes, where electromagnetic interference can cause problems with electronic equipment.
