Booksurge.com & Electronic Publishers Coalition Form Partnership
For Immediate Release:
Launch of Booksurge.com Powered by Electronic Publishers Coalitions Full Support
February 9, 2001
The launch of innovative distribution of digital books by Booksurge.com has caught the attention of the Electonic Publishers Coalition -- and garnered its full support. Already hailed by authors and publishers as the worlds first true digital bookstore," Booksurge.com will create a point of convergence for the internets Electronic publishers on a single web outlet whose focus is making digital books available in the readers preferred format, including Adobe Acrobat-read e-books, palm pilot downloadable books, and print-on-demand paperbacks, with more to come.
The EPC, a non-profit organization built to unify and strengthen the on-line publishing community, sees the mission of Booksurge.com as being complementary to their own goals, and thus has initiated a collaboration between the two. This presents an additional mode of growth for the EPC as well, as publishers can join through the Booksurge site.
Booksurge co-founder and EPC board member Mitchell Davis sees a further benefit: recruiting traditional publishers into the EPC as they step into the new publishing industry. Traditional and web-based publishers have a lot of information that they can share to be better publishers. The EPC can be the place for this to happen," Davis notes.
The publishing industry is not the sole beneficiary of Booksurge.coms inception: it will provide unprecedented opportunities for readers everywhere. Jeff Schwaner, EPC member and co-founder of GreatUnpublished.com explains: The average person enters a bookstore and browses by categories. Online, consumers are limited to a specific publisher, not genre. GreatUnpublished.com and other online publishers are excited about Booksurge because it pools together all the publishers like a traditional bookstore and offers more choices to the reader, both in content and the format of its delivery."
Book availability through Booksurge will be unparalled: it will be the first bookstore capable of warehousing its entire inventory such that it is accessible in a matter of minutes. Digital books are the innovative foundation of Booksurge. Its not about e-books versus paperback," says Davis, Its about digitally stored books delivered quickly in any number of ways to the reader." Schwaner agrees: Its a bookstore where nothing is ever out of stock. Its a simple concept that makes a lot of sense."
