FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Pacific Microinstruments Announces Availability of High Resolution Measurement Nodes for Handheld Computers.
Sierra Madre, CA (04/05/2001) - Pacific Microinstruments, Inc. announced the immediate availability of 16-bit and 24-bit versions of the Extra*Digit(TM) Measurement Node running under the Palm(TM) OS on the Handspring(TM) Visor(TM) handheld computer. The Extra*Digit MNP-16 and MNP-24 are intended for applications requiring high precision, but without the high speed and real-time signal processing capabilities of DSP-based systems. Example applications include precision measurements of temperature, pressure and voltage. These parameters and other similar ones are frequently used in industrial settings for the inspection and maintenance of equipment and processes. The MNP-16 and MNP-24 are currently available to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) only.
"With the addition of these two high resolution measurement nodes to our existing line of measurement and DSP platforms, the majority of industrial handheld measurement devices are now technically and economically feasible by combining a node and a handheld computer. " said Michael Klinglesmith, CTO, Pacific Microinstruments.
"The introduction of these platforms continues the shift of the handheld device market towards PDA-based modular systems," said Eric Canuteson, CEO, Pacific Microinstruments, Inc. "With the introduction of these systems, OEMs can introduce high precision measurement devices that are price competitive with existing tools on the market. With additional functionality such as on-line documentation and one-button data synchronization to database structures, modular instruments offer a distinct value advantage over traditional tools in enterprise settings."
The Extra*Digit MNP-16 and MNP-24 are available immediately in OEM quantities.
