SINGLE MOMZ MAGAZINE SCORES BIG WITH EVERYONE
Single Momz Magazine has been well received by readers since it's official launch in March 2001. It's had visitors from a close in proximity as New York (where the magazine is based) to a far away as Germany.
Brooklyn, NY ---- It's only been a month since the official launch of her online magazine, Single Momz Magazine, and Feona Sharhran Huff, the publisher, has received more than 1,000 visitors to her e-zine -- a phenomenal accomplishment for someone who's mission is not to shine in the spotlight, but to showcase the wonderful strides that single mothers are making everyday and to offer moral and emotional support along the road called "Single Motherhood" through the coverage of health and wellness, personal finance, expert advice, entertainment, fashion and beauty, travel, contests, etc. Subscribing to the 3 E's: Education, Empowerment, and Entertainment, Feona has already begun to touch the lives of single moms and supporters of the cause -- from as close as New York (where she currently resides with her 14-month-old daughter) to as far away as Germany.
"Thank You for having the insight and determination to provide single moms with a source of information, outreach, and a connection that is so very needed. As a promotions and marketing director, freelance writer for various magazines, and a single mother of one and a half children, I am so proud to know that there are others like me, working hard to succeed at being superwoman with or without a man," says Patrica Price of Alabama.
Angelique Shofar, a single mother from Maryland adds: "Your magazine is colorful, creative, and bold!"
In addition, New York publicist, Zakia Feracho says, "Single Momz Magazine is great and full of those helpful hints and tidbits that probably wouldn't be seen in Essence or O."
This is the kind of feedback that Feona says she loves to hear about the magazine. It lets her know that people, too, see a need for a central networking community for single mothers.
"Although there are hundreds of books that offer advice on single motherhood, I realized that there was no central location that single mothers could go to and find a community of single mothers that offered each other support in a variety of ways," says Feona. So with the encouragement of friends, a deep-rooted desire to have my own publication in order to bring about empowerment, and with my God-given writing talent, I was compelled to create Single Momz Magazine. It was a calling I simply had to answer."
Feona acknowledges that she draws her magazine inspiration from close friends and
associates. However, her greatest source of strength and motivation comes from her
daughter, Clara Caasi Sharhran Huff, and mother, Dorothy A. Huff.
"Clara Caasi adds meaning and purpose to my life. She drives me to be more and do more than I imagined possible. I love seeing her develop such independence. I love when she grabs my face and puckers up to give me a kiss. I love when she jumps up and down when I get home from work (because she missed me). I love working so hard each and every day because I know for whom Im doing it for -- she and I. I love when she fights me for the mouse to the computer. I love it when I turn to Hot 97 and she begins bouncing to an R Kelly groove. Motherhood is a treasure and a blessing. It has made me an even better person, even more compassionate and concerned about certain issues, and has been the reason why Single Momz Magazine came into being. Being a mother is the greatest position Ill ever hold -- one which will never give me a Pink Slip. As for my mother, she constantly shows me that its possible to be a great mother -- who happens to be single -- and a career woman, without compromising either. She exudes care and compassion, two qualities I admire."
Feona holds a B.A. in Journalism from Norfolk State University, Norfolk, VA. Not only does she juggle single parenting, a full-time job (where she works as the assistant editor of College Bound and SUCCEED magazines, plus several websites), and of course, Single Momz Magazine, but she's also the Lifestyles Editor of Black Reign News (www.theblackreign.web.com), and a freelance writer for Black Enterprise, Black Enterprise For Teens, UPSCALE, The Source, Word Up!, Rap Masters, SheInk, and Norfolk State University Alumni Magazine. Shes a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, New York Association of Black Journalists, Moms On A Mission, A Circle Of Sisters, and The New York Metro Alumni Chapter of Norfolk State University. Feona is the CEO of FSH Enterprises and founder of Reaching Mines Book Club.
