FH Brundle chosen for major Natural History Museum project
A major new facility at the Natural History Museum in London, The Darwin Centre, is to be built in two phases over the next five years. As well as the public being allowed access to previously unseen collections, the new Centre will provide much needed additional storage and research facilities. The museum houses millions of organisms, some going back to the time of Captain Cook and space has been at a premium.
A leading engineering company was appointed to provide the heating and ventilating systems, flues and other related works on the project. FH Brundle was chosen to supply the material to construct a decorative and partly rain-protective weather screen where the services exit on the north side of the building.
FH Brundle, one of the UKs leading suppliers of wrought iron, mesh and steel products, worked with Gantois of France, who manufacture the mild steel, ribbed, perforated plate. Both stainless and mild steel samples were provided for consideration, but mild steel was selected to enable fabrication prior to finishing. Known as TPN, the material can be supplied with square or slotted holes, as well as different rib configurations. Colt International are applying a silver powder coating was applied as the finish.
Richard Brundle, current proprietor of the long-standing family run company said, it is very exciting to be part of such a prestigious and visible project. Our diversification over the last few years is now really beginning to pay off and we are now just as comfortable working on special projects as we are at supplying our traditional customers through the regional branches".
