"SELL YOUR MUSIC" NAMED BOOK OF THE MONTH BY HOME RECORDING CENTRAL
Groundbreaking book for home based musicians has been named Book Of
The Month by Home Recording Central web magazine
LOS ANGELES, CA "Sell Your Music! How To Profitably Sell Your Own Recordings Online" has been named Book Of
The Month by Home Recording Central web magazine. The music business reference title, only in its second week of
publication, is recognized as being the first and only mass trade paperback yet published on the emerging music retailing model
known as "Direct Distribution," whereby musicians and composers bypass traditional record companies when making and
selling their own product.
Dan Ball, president of DB Masters.Net, publishers of Home Recording Central, said "We are proud to be first to name this
title Book Of The Month, and are honored to have Mr. Curran's book as a featured title in our magazine. Independent
musicians have been indentured servants to record companies for far too long. It's time someone provided a solution to the
problem, and Mark Curran has done just that."
A spokesman for NMD Books of Los Angeles, the book's publisher, said that demand for the book has been overwhelming
ever since the announcement. "It's apparent," said Anthony Madden, Vice President of NMD sales and distribution, "there are
a lot of musicians that see value in this information." Madden says their toll free order line has not stopped ringing since the
news broke.
Mark W. Curran, 44, a Los Angeles-based musician and songwriter, says he wrote the book after receiving over 1000
rejection slips from record companies who refused to even listen to his music. "It wasn't so much the rejection as the attitude,"
Curran says, "they acted like they were kings, and I was the lowly knave. Their attitude was, 'who the hell are you? Call us
back after you've sold a million records.'"
"Then I learned about a 65 year old pianist named Ernesto Cortazar that made over $100,000 last year selling his own music.
That's what got this ball rolling. Now the record companies are running scared. Direct distribution could mean their death, and I
won't be attending the funeral," Curran said.
