USIBWC To Study Condition of Levee System

The U.S. Section of the IBWC (International Border Water Commission) has employed some high-tech helicopters to map the levee system on the U.S. portion in the Brownsville/McAllen, TX area.

The U.S. Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission (USIBWC) has initiated a study to determine the condition of the levee system on the U.S. portion of the Lower Rio Grande Flood Control Project. The study includes employment of advanced airborne technology to map the area.
This work will be done in conjunction with the Waterways Experiment Station (WES), headquarters for the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC).
Two leading technology firms which are part of the Fugro group of companies will join up to conduct the survey work. The U.S. Army contracted the services of Fugro Airborne Surveys (FAS) of Toronto, Canada and John Chance Land Surveys, Inc. (JCLS) of Lafayette, LA.
Survey work will be conducted to characterize flood control levees to assist in monitoring their status and aid in the early identification of potential hazards. The project will run approximately 270 miles along the levees of the Brownsville and McAllen, TX area.
