THE ONE ACADEMY Organises Asia's Most Famous Comics Exhibition in Malaysia

THE ONE ACADEMY (Art & Design Private College) is organising the "Tian Xia & The One Academy Comics Exhibition & Roadshow" in September. This will be the first time Hong Kong's most popular comics series will be on show in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Fans of Ma Wing Shing, the famous illustrator of Tian Xia, will be able to meet him at the exhibition, along with his team of illustrators. Ma has illustrated and produced many top comics in Hong Kong. His readership is not limited to those who know Mandarin: Tian Xia, one of his most successful comics, has been translated into Bahasa Malaysia. More than 100 pieces of original and digitally printed artwork will be exhibited, with 50% of the artwork produced by The One Academy's graduates.

IN AN EFFORT TO PROMOTE ART & DESIGN to Malaysians from all walks of life, The One Academy had been organising various exhibitions and events throughout the country.

Its recent event held in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, The New Media Youth Festival 2001, has brought in the prestigious New York Art Directors Club and International Designers Network award-winning artworks for local art enthusiasts.

The academy has also been organising promotional events for Buena Vista Columbia TriStar Malaysia to promote Disneys Toy Story 2, A Bugs Life, Dinosaur, 102 Dalmatians and Atlantis release in Malaysia.

In its latest effort, The One Academy aims to bring the world of comics closer to its local fans by organising the first ever Tian Xia & The One Academy Comics Exhibition & Roadshow. The exhibition will be the first for the Hong Kongs most popular comics series to hold an event here in Malaysia.

After a long wait of more than 15 years, fans of Ma Wing Shing, the famous illustrator of Tian Xia, will be able to see the world-renowned illustrator himself when The One Academy brings Ma and his team of illustrators to Malaysia in conjunction with the exhibition.

In fact, this will mark the first ever time for Ma to hold an exhibition here in Malaysia. Comics enthusiasts are in for a real treat as The One Academy is planning to hold a series of exhibitions in 4 major cities throughout the country, bringing Ma and his illustrations closer to its fans. The cities are Kuala Lumpur (central Malaysia), Penang (northern West Malaysia), Johor Bahru, Johor (southern West Malaysia) and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (East Malaysia).

Thirty-nine years old Ma is the illustrator and producer of top Chinese comics in Hong Kong. His comics have a huge number of fans not only in Hong Kong but also in Malaysia and the world over.

His readers are not only limited to the Chinese only. In Malaysia, one of his most successful comics, Tian Xia, is translated into Malay for the Chinese-illiterate fans. The Malay version, known as Pedang Setiawan, sells about 30,000 copies per month in Malaysia alone.

The roadshow in Kuala Lumpur will see more than 100 pieces of original and digitally printed artworks produced by Mas team of illustrators. Incidentally, fifty percent of these artworks were produced by graduates of The One Academy.

Fans of Ma will also get their once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the world-famous comics artist himself during the autograph and photo sessions. Those who would like to see the master himself in action will be able to witness a demonstration on how Tian Xia comics are drawn.

Other programmes that are currently being planned include a seminar and workshop. Fans will also be able to get their hands on premiums and merchandise that are brought in from Hong Kong.
