More Advanced Technical Courses Reported at Leading Private Schools - The 82nd annual Handbook of Private Schools available August 10,2001
BOSTON --Robotics,advanced programming, and Web design are increasingly popular courses at leading US private schools, according to data in the 82 nd Handbook of Private Schools,to be published August 10,2001.
Its no surprise that so many schools now offer Web design, but I was impressed by the schools offering advanced technical curricula like robotics and C++,"said Daniel McKeever, senior editor for Porter Sargent Publishers, Inc.,publishers of the Handbook since 1915.It doesnt appear the new courses come at the expense of the traditional liberal arts, but rather are an extension of existing science programs.

BOSTON --Robotics,advanced programming, and Web design are increasingly popular courses at leading US private schools, according to data in the 82 nd Handbook of Private Schools,to be published August 10,2001.
Its no surprise that so many schools now offer Web design, but I was impressed by the schools offering advanced technical curricula like robotics and C++,"said Daniel McKeever, senior editor for Porter Sargent Publishers, Inc.,publishers of the Handbook since 1915.It doesnt appear the new courses come at the expense of the traditional liberal arts, but rather are an extension of existing science programs."
McKeever and his staff collect data from 1600 private primary and secondary schools nationwide with detailed questionnaires about curricula, faculty, staffing, admissions, placements, and financial details. The results are edited and compiled for the Handbook, and cross-referenced by state and region,boarding/day programs, sex and
grade range accepted, and other features such as religious affiliations and LD programs.
Educators, parents, and educational consultants typically use the Handbook to help place students and evaluate schools for college admissions and matching grants.
Only 5%of private schools nationwide are chosen for the Handbook, upon evaluation of such criteria as the school s curriculum, geographic appeal, and placements at competitive institu-
tions.
Unlike some other educational guides, selection to the Handbook and listing content is not determined or influenced by advertising, but is at the sole discretion of the editors.
The Handbook of Private Schools is available from most major booksellers and libraries,or by contacting the publisher directly at 800-342-7470 or www.portersargent.com
